I want nihilism to stop being a bad word to most people. The fact that 'nothing matters', means that the things that matters to you, are exactly the most important things in the world. You have to own your relation to the world. And it's not hard. It's just takes caring about what YOU care about.
Nihilism is the ultimate opportunity to allow the world to have meaning.
This is a phenomenal video; easily one of your best. Thank you!
Beautiful composition as ever, all of it food for thought. I'm reminded of a line from the comedian Doug Stanhope and I paraphrase – ''Before I was born, I had no worries. Only when I came into existence did I have a bad day''.
Let's pretend the multiverse exists for a moment, now there are infinitely more versions of you that do not look like you because for every universe to have a version of you that looks identical to you is a ridiculous suggestion. There are infinite universes where everyone in our universe exists, except they are all face swapped with their siblings. I'm so tired of people calling it a plot hole that certain multiverse versions of characters look different while others are the same, there are infinite universes where Spider-Man is only ever played by Liam Neeson, so stop expecting the exact same sperm to fertilize the exact same egg across the entire multiverse, divergences don't stop at any particular person or time, so it is guaranteed that in a Universe where your Dad got too excited, too quickly that butterfly effect caused a different sperm to fertilize the egg that was you, and you grew up in the exact same way you did except you have an entirely different DNA meaning you don't look like you.
Nihilism is often misunderstood, when nothing matters, it's up to you to decide meaning and purpose. Life is whatever you want it to be.
This was a worthwhile essay to listen to up to 18:56. It feels like a fake and forced, confusing ending, that seems to me like an equivalent of someone ending their serious discourse with "actually, nevermind, everything is super duper great, lolz!" *corny sentimental violin starts playing, everyone crying*. It seems so detached from the main idea which was a discussion of implications of nihilism wrought by the multiverse concept.
Interesting that you drew such a strong thematic connection between EEAAO and Fleabag; I hadn't drawn that connection myself, but these are easily the two pieces of media which have emotionally moved me the most in recent years
